--- Comment #6 from chaos5399@gmail.com 2010-09-22 22:10:43 CDT --- Two problems between Wine and iTunes 10.
running ubuntu 10.04 and wine 1.2
opening iTunes gives error that the "ipod service" had a critical failure.
Trying to uninstall itunes from Wine appears to have gone through the installation process. I was able to remove it using the instructions under section 5.2 of this link (this was my first attempt at using Wine):

I opened the iTunes installation file with Archive Manager, then installed the various files separately. Installing each of the application dependencies first and then run the overall to get the application working.
The problem I see now - app store doesn't work and the application will freeze during normal use. I do get an error on load about Bonjour service not starting but otherwise ok.
I tried to authorize but it failed - can see it in the debug.
Application froze when I clicked on the store.

I have this exact same problem. After successfully running "wine iTunesSetup1011.exe" when I attempt to execute the iTunes.exe program, using the following command: ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/iTunes/iTunes.exe" I get the message: error 7 (Windows error 998)
I would be glad to work with someone for as much time as needed in order to get iTunes to work correctly with Wine.
I'm a Computer Literate person and could do any testing that you wish done in order to solve this problem.
Thank you for any assistance you can give me in this matter. Yours truly,

This occurs when attempting to install Quicktime 7.69.80.9, which iTunes insists it needs. For some reason the main installer doesn't notice that the installer fails and continues installing the other components. Then, of course, iTunes fails with an uninformative error.
"winetricks quicktime76" uses the exact same version but there is no console output so I don't know if it uses a workaround that works. Nonetheless this does not help the situation.
iTunes then hangs and has to be killed. It is not obvious if this is a separate error or not, I would imagine it is.

It can't find QuickTimeInstallerAdmin.exe in /tmp. This is expected if you extracted only the Quicktime installer to /tmp.
Please attach a +msi trace from an attempt to install iTunes.

run in terminal : winetricks riched20
After the command executes iTunes opens correctly
