Bug ID: 40657 Summary: Rome Total War crashes at startup in gst_object_unref Product: Wine Version: 1.9.10 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winegstreamer Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: robert.munteanu@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 54528 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=54528 backtrace
32-bit wine prefix with steam installed. This used to work at some point, but I haven't tried RTW in a long time. After the initial splash screen, when a progress bar appears, RTW crashes.
The backtrace points to winegstreamer, see attached.

--- Comment #2 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- The most common path when a regression happens is to run a regression test to find when the problem was introduced: https://wiki.winehq.org/Regression_Testing
In wine-git there has been some changes to gstreamer so it could be useful to try it before doing the regression test. Also Andrew may have some hints related to this issue.

--- Comment #3 from rscheidegger_lists@hispeed.ch --- Created attachment 54625 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=54625 morrowind crash backtrace
FWIW I'm seeing the exact same issue with morrowind (attaching the backtrace, albeit it's just about identical), with wine 1.9.11 (worked with 1.9.7).
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40657
--- Comment #4 from rscheidegger_lists@hispeed.ch --- I tried bisecting this, but without much luck, since self-built wine crashed even earlier, albeit in gstreamer too. In order to build wine with gstreamer support I also had to update lots of gstreamer packages - the crash I got there was then seemingly because no plugin handling mpeg1 audio was available. Comparing this to the precompiled 1.9.7 wine, I noticed this one actually complained about failure to load winegstreamer.dll but apparently it worked fine without. But in any case, I no longer get a crash with updated gstreamer (and the required plugins installed).

--- Comment #5 from Andrew Eikum aeikum@codeweavers.com --- I'm not able to reproduce this with gstreamer 1.8 in either Morrowind nor in the RTW demo from http://www.gamershell.com/download_6784.shtml.

--- Comment #6 from super_man@post.com --- I remember getting the exact backtrace with some other bug, staging complained if i have 32bit gstream related files installed, while pure wine didnt complain or didnt suggest installing 32bit versions of files.
It could help.

--- Comment #10 from Robert Munteanu robert.munteanu@gmail.com --- I don't see the crash anymore, but note that I tried with SteamPlay/Proton 3.7-8. I am no longer able to verify using regular Wine builds.

Even though this could be marked FIXED, I'll go for ABANDONED since you aren't able to test with vanilla wine anymore.
