Summary: Pride of Nations Demo: Product: Wine Version: 1.3.23 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.gamershell.com/download_74618.shtml OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish@gmail.com
Potentially workaround 27628 (winetricks -q d3dx9_36, or don't remove the native dll).
Start the app, choose new game, choose the only campaign option. Choose any country (tried UK and Russia).
The game will either immediately exit, or maybe pop up a map and an error dialog. Nothing shows in the terminal. Looking at the game's log, I see: 7:08:56 PM [Critical ] TParticlesDef.Fetch Data container for particles definitions has some discrepancies, for UID 1 7:08:56 PM [Critical ] TParticlesDef.Fetch Data container for particles definitions has some discrepancies, for UID 1

--- Comment #3 from Simeon Zaharici simeon_zaharici@yahoo.com 2012-07-17 10:36:53 CDT --- This does not look like a d3dx9 wine bug. There is no wine error recorded, the error only shows up in the game log.
If I try to run the game with wine 1.5.4 directly from the windows ntfs partiton it works ( albeit awfully slow), when it is run from the ext4 partition is exits with the TParticlesDef.Fetch error

What happens if you copy the install from a windows partition to your wine directory? And/or if you copy the install from wine to windows (backup other installs first).
It could be a broken install..

I did the tests you suggested and the game will run from the ntfs partition but not from the ext4 one. I will try to dig further to see when handling which file the error occurs

For running on the ntfs partition, were you using the version you installed via wine? You could try WINEDEBUG=+file, it could be missing a file, and on windows it has it, but not when installed via wine..

Ok I redid the tests.
I installed the demo first under wine, tried to run the game, it exits with the TParticlesDef.Fetch error. I copied the game directory on the ntfs partition, and started the game from there the game runs... It's vey strange, how can I troubeshoot this ? There are no file differences between the two directories

You copied the wine install to the NTFS directory, or the NTFS install to a linux file system?
`diff -ur` may help.

--- Comment #9 from Simeon Zaharici simeon_zaharici@yahoo.com 2012-07-23 20:24:37 CDT --- In the last test I copied the wine install from the ext4 partition to the ntfs partiton and ran the game successfully. Actually In any case the game will always run successfully from the ntfs partition. I know this is very strange and I have no explanation for it but I stumbled upon this by chance. I was trying hard to get the game to work and I was missing space on my linux partition at that moment( i have a dual boot with windows vista and ubuntu) so I tried running the game from the windows partition where it was already installed

--- Comment #10 from Jarkko K jarkko_korpi@hotmail.com --- I tried the demo with wine 1.7.18
And it seems the same issue is still there. I 1st thought game hanged, but as I pressed ctrl+alt+backspace, before restoring kde session I noticed that there was some dialog, which I assume is the dialog Austin mentiones at comment 1.
I was able to enter some map, which definitely was lacking some graphics, also the main menu lacks texts, debug log is full of
"fixme:d3dx:ID3DXFontImpl_DrawTextA..."
lines.
Also there are some
fixme:d3dx:D3DXLoadSurfaceFromMemory Unhandled filter 0x80004.

--- Comment #11 from super_man@post.com --- There was no clear crash but some popup window that complains about something being wrong and it prevents you entering the game. This game needs 24754 for drawing texts.
I would say that this is same state as before.

--- Comment #12 from super_man@post.com --- This game has regressed with wine. While trying to start it just gives a popup message and the only option is to accept it and the game silently fails.

--- Comment #13 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- The bug is fixed in wine-4.4. Austin, can you check it? There is problem with text because of ID3DXFontImpl_DrawTextA is a stub, but it is an another problem that deserves its own bug report.
Can an administrator close this bug as FIXED?
