After updating wine above 1.7.25 starting ie8 (installed with winetricks) crashes on startup.

You're running it wrong, as winetricks tells you when installing it: To start ie8, use the command wine 'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore'

Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. The explorer process failed to start.
Seems suspicious. Does using the X11 driver instead of the Mac driver (see http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys) make a difference?

Now that I installed 1.7.36 ie8 does not work...
