--- Comment #5 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2008-06-11 14:10:17 --- Confirming with the first demo on a Intel i915 card. Game starts but menu is not usually at all (textures are lacking).
Going to attach a normal log and some screenshots. The full game works on my nvidia geforce FX, at least in the menu (in-game is a different story).
Greets, Tobias

Unfortunately nobody left a screenshot how the breakage looks like.

--- Comment #13 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2010-05-19 01:34:16 --- Nvidia Geforce 7600Go with driver 195.36.24

--- Comment #14 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-05-19 10:18:23 --- Created an attachment (id=28082) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28082) screenshot showing the difference between 1.1.43 & 1.1.44
It has been already fixed in Wine-1.1.44, at least when using a Nvidia 7xxx series card with driver 195.36.24 Prior to 1.1.44 floor and wall textures were missing, and the game was painfully slow. Now, in 1.1.44 all objects have correct textures and the performance is good (at least in the demo).

--- Comment #15 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2010-05-19 11:29:21 --- See the entry post for the initial problem (which never changed btw).
So whatever was fixed in wine-1.1.44, it does not fix the menu problem. It's still completly unusuable - you can't see _anything_ in the menus.
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)
driver: i915, mesa git master
Please note again: this is about _MENU_ problems.

--- Comment #17 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2010-05-20 01:02:03 --- For me, menu is fine. That is surely a driver bug for Intel graphic card. So, this bug should be marked as INVALID.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13702
--- Comment #18 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2010-05-20 06:10:09 --- That's _your_ assumption. Keep in mind that wined3d has a lot of codepaths and you're only testing a specific one with your nvidia card.

--- Comment #19 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2010-09-05 10:47:25 CDT --- Turns out that this is the _exact_ same problem as in bug #24276. When properly installing libtxc_dxtn the graphics and menu are displayed fine (just forcing S3TC on also works OK I think).
I really think we need some sort of warning when S3TC is detected as disabled. Wonder how many more bugs depend just on this one DRI config option..

--- Comment #20 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2010-09-08 16:26:53 CDT --- Anyway, I think we can close this one here as duplicate of bug #24276.
There are still more Splinter Cell graphics issues, but these are tracked in bug #9609 and bug #13869.
Henri has already submitted a patch to issue a warning if s3tc support is not found, but it was not accepted yet. I'm going to close bug #24276 when the patch goes mainline.
