--- Comment #4 from Eduin Carrillo yecarrillo@gmail.com 2008-08-26 15:06:13 --- Both ArcGIS and ArcView GIS install ESRI fonts. I guess both programs get the first font found as default font to some parts of the interface. All these ESRI fonts are symbols!

--- Comment #5 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-09-07 12:26:24 --- Can you try with a fresh .wine directory?
Where did the fonts get installed to? c:\windows\fonts ? What happens if you remove the fonts.

From http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks#winetricks_and_bugs :
"Please do not report bugs if you have used winetricks to install native (ie non Wine) files, as we cannot support Microsoft dlls."

The installer should properly install the fonts, as I'm assuming it does on windows.

--- Comment #9 from Tom Glancy tom.glancy@dnr.state.mn.us 2009-01-07 11:32:37 --- ESRI ArcView and ArcGIS assume that the true-type Arial fonts are installed. If the fonts are missing, it uses whatever font is available, which are its own symbol fonts. If missing Arial fonts is a Wine bug, then we are on to something here...

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-07-08 15:01:16 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.25 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #11 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-06-04 12:41:31 --- If the bug is missing Arial font, perhaps we should mark this as a duplicate of bug 21082.
