that seems to solve the problem. At least the Login-Window is showing up.

--- Comment #4 from maikwagner@yahoo.com 2011-04-12 14:57:29 CDT --- I would like to add that I can also startup games okay. Just tried running "Evil Genius" from my Steam-Account. Everything works well thanks to changing settings to OSS.

Howdy Maik,
Wine's sound system has changed quite a bit since 1.3.17, could you please retest in 1.6 (or preferable 1.7.2/newer) using alsa?

--- Comment #6 from Maik Wagner wagnermaik@web.de --- Just tested with 1.6.1 on CentOS 6.5 and the login window shows up okay. Unfortunately I don't know where to make the change to ALSA but got the following in console output
ALSA lib pcm_pulse.c:995:(_snd_pcm_pulse_open) Unknown field handle_underrun err:winediag:AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint PulseAudio "default" -22 without handle_underrun. Audio may hang. Please upgrade to alsa_plugins >= 1.0.24
Probably need to do the update to >=1.0.24 but everything seems to be okay again. Thanks for your engangement in wine, it's a great help.

Hello Austin,
wine 1.7.23 on openSUSE "Factory" (Rolling Release) here. The login window shows up but doesn't show any text. This has also been reported.

--- Comment #9 from hanska2@luukku.com --- If I understood right, you can start "wine steam -no-dwrite", then you get text when you start steam.

This bug is about Steam crashing with ALSA. Does that still happen in 1.7.23 or later? If it doesn't, this bug is fixed.

--- Comment #11 from Maik Wagner maiktapwagner@aol.com --- Hello,
tested Steam with openSUSE Factory. Wine version is 1.7.26 and I configured my soundcard to use driver "snd-hda-intel". The login window shows up okay and I tried "Counterstrike Condition Zero" as a game. The sound stutters a bit but the application "Steam" doesn't crash - for me this bug can be closed.
