Summary: World of Warcraft new Launcher: Options panel grey&black, unusable Product: Wine Version: 1.1.13 Platform: PC-x86-64 URL: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: adys.wh+winehqdotorg@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=18918) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18918) Screenshot of options panel when loaded.
Since patch 3.0.8, World of Warcraft has been provided with a new Launcher.exe application. The Launcher itself works great, however the Options and Help panels not so much. They both show an empty, grey area, surrounded by black large borders on top and bottom.
When minimizing, changing desktops, etc., sometimes a bit of text and controls come up. They can be interacted with. See attachments.
Those panels can be closed just fine by pressing Escape.

--- Comment #5 from nick ves vespenegeyser@hotmail.com 2009-02-02 12:28:32 --- CONFIRMING this bug as version 1.1.14
when you click the launcher, the top menu renders correctly, and so does its submenus. However when you click at the Options button, (it should update the interface with the Options menu options) the box freezes with a gray background. After 10 secs or so, the buttons render and they're clickable, but without any background image whatsoever.

--- Comment #10 from carlos.chuim@gmail.com 2009-03-25 01:31:02 --- Another piece of information: minimizing the window (via the task bar) and maximizing it again, bypasses the problem by showing buttons in an "uglier" version of the screen (like in the "half-working*" attachment).

I'm just going through the installation to wine myself. The whole isntallation window is bugged too. Not sure if I should even install some windows component(s) in order to get a perfect result or its a bug with wine? See my screen from the burning crusade installation panel as attackment.

Somewhat improved in 1.1.28.. but still pretty much the same. The top bar is starting to show some transparency.

I figured out that I can get exactly the same options screen in the real desktop. Still grey and black in a virtual desktop which I normally use with WoW.
Good: WINEPREFIX=... wine Launcher.exe
Bad: WINEPREFIX=... wine explorer "/desktop=WoW,800x600" Launcher.exe
With default logging I see no message in console in either case.

Because of a permission issue with the Launcher, doing a regression test now is annoyingly long. On a more interesting note, using a virtual desktop regresses to the first screenshot's behaviour. Without one it's a lot better.

Yes it's that issue, and this bug isn't dependent on it, it just makes it harder to do regression tests with the launcher.
