[Bug 6297] Half life 2 based games occasionally do not start due to registry in use

I get this bug- and for me the circumstances that create it are
reproducible/predictable.

It happens when HL2 crashes or the wine server is killed.

I have found that it will be fixed by gracefully loading and then exiting steam,
then reloading it again.
