Summary: Key input crashes newer source engine games Product: Wine Version: 20050930 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ajbader@umich.edu
Both CS:S and Team Fortress 2 both seem to run fine, but any keyboard input at any time will cause the .exe to crash. Nothing else appears wrong. I can join games and play as long as no movement with keyboard is made.
CS:S before the engine update worked fine, but now it's running on something similar to the TF2 engine, and it does the same thing.
I can't grab a log of the crash, and the terminal doesn't report anything.

--- Comment #1 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-06-24 09:58:59 --- I seriously doubt that you're running a five-year-old version of Wine. Please specify the correct Wine version that you are using.

--- Comment #3 from Jeff Cook cookiecaper@gmail.com 2010-07-09 14:28:31 --- Why can't you grab terminal output? Do wine Steam.exe &> log and all of the text that would have gone to the terminal will go to a file called log in the pwd.
Someone else just reported this in the AppDB comments for TF2 and I have directed him here. You may want to compare hardware or something, as it seems that most people haven't been stricken with this.

--- Comment #5 from ajbader@umich.edu 2010-07-09 23:37:29 --- Added terminal output, most things seem okay except the last two lines:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x7f0bd998 at address 0x7ed417ab (thread 0017), starting debugger... err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7b85bd07
This happened when I pressed a key on the keyboard. Any key (even ctrl and alt) seem to crash it. No fixes have occurred with rc6.

--- Comment #6 from Jeff Cook cookiecaper@gmail.com 2010-07-10 01:00:25 --- What window manager, video card, driver, and version of X are you using? Have you tried with a clean wine prefix?

--- Comment #7 from Adam Mizerski adam@mizerski.pl 2010-07-10 02:37:40 --- I also have this problem. Also on clean wine prefix.
X.Org X Server 1.6.5, Release Date: 2009-10-11, X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Video card: GeForce 8600M GS Driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-256.35 Window manager: Metacity. But it doesn't matter. I run xinit /usr/bin/wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -novid -fullscreen -w 1280 -h 800 -- /usr/bin/Xorg :1 so it was without window manager and it also crashed.

--- Comment #8 from ajbader@umich.edu 2010-07-10 09:18:13 --- Fluxbox Nvidia Linux-x86_64 256.35 Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+ xorg-server 1.8.1.902-1
Did it clean, and tried everything but no good. However, there are times (very rare times) that I am somehow able to play without it crashing.
I have tried to replicate it, but I can't. It just doesn't want me to play C:SS or TF2 :(
