Bug ID: 42882 Summary: rs232 port access no working with ubuntu 17.10 worked fine with previous versions of ubuntu Product: Wine Version: 2.4 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: arcadeshopper@gmail.com Distribution: ---
I am able to connect to the serial port via applications in wine but there is never any data received.
I can communicate outside of wine without issue using minicom.
I am using a ftdi usb to serial adapter that worked fine in previous versions of ubuntu. I am having this problems with all relases of wine I have tried including the default ubuntu package and 2.4 from the PPA

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- Did you previously use wine-2.4? If it was a different version, could you try that version on 17.10, to see if the regression is in wine or somewhere else (likely kernel)?

--- Comment #3 from Gregory McGill arcadeshopper@gmail.com --- i did not use 2.4 I installed that in my troubleshooting after it did not work with the standard version, it is the latest version in the PPA. The version of wine on my other ubuntu 16.x machine is 1.6.2 I tried installing wine1.6 package and have the same issue.

--- Comment #4 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- What software are you testing? Can you reproduce the problem with Hyper Terminal?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42882
--- Comment #5 from Gregory McGill arcadeshopper@gmail.com --- I am using the HDX server software found here: http://www.ti99-geek.nl/ under projects.

I am using the HDX server software found here: http://www.ti99-geek.nl/ under projects.
this worked on previous versions of ubuntu without issue I will try hyperterminal now
hyperterminal required registry settings to work, but is also not working correctly for me

--- Comment #7 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Sorry, I forgot that Hyper Terminal suffers from bug 25083. I also cannot receive data in it. But I just tested with TeraTerm and it works for me. I'm using a Prolific PL2303 device with a loopback "device" attached to it. Could you test TeraTerm please?

--- Comment #13 from Alex Henrie alexhenrie24@gmail.com --- Resolving as "WORKSFORME" because there is not enough information to reproduce the problem. It's entirely possible that something unrelated to Wine (like device permissions or group membership) changed on the computer where the problem was happening.

not a access issue or a permissions issue

--- Comment #17 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Wine-6.0.3 is outdated since a long time. It is pretty useless to report the state of a bug with such outdated version. Please use the latest wine version (currently it is wine-8.5) and report again.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42882
--- Comment #18 from Gregory McGill arcadeshopper@gmail.com --- Ok updated to latest wine-stable from winhq 8.0 still no comms updated to 8.5 no comms
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42882
--- Comment #19 from Gregory McGill arcadeshopper@gmail.com --- according to the author:
Opening a COM port in Windows is pretty standard and I use this in a lot of programs:
wsprintf(ComPortName,"\\.\COM%u", ComPort); hSerCom = CreateFile(ComPortName, GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE, 0, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, 0);
If this fails you get some messagebox: Can't open serial port <COM%u:>
or: Can't create overlapped handle for <COM%u:>
If you don't see this then the CreateFile function succeeded.
no error messages in the program
