Bug ID: 41814 Summary: Thief Gold: Mouse is not working/sensitivity borked Product: Wine Version: 1.9.23 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: altiris28048@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 56233 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=56233 Wine output when running THIEF.EXE
Basically the game Thief Gold (and Thief 2 for that matter) is unplayable because of this issue.
All controls seem to work except for the mouse. When moving the mouse around, nothing appears to happen, if I move the mouse around incredibly fast and in all sorts of areas, then the player's POV/camera will start to move but then it will remain paused if I stop vigorously shaking the mouse.
In short, it appears something is causing the mouse to want to pull all the way towards the sky, if I rapidly drag the mouse down and then don't move it again, the player's camera will face the floor, but as soon as I touch the mouse the player's camera will go back to facing the sky.
I used to be able to run this game flawlessly on 1.7.x or 1.8.x, I can't remember which, I remember by date of around October 2015 I was able to run the game just fine, so whatever release was out around that time played the game perfectly fine.
System Specs Arch Linux w/ kernel 4.8.10 64bit w/ radeonsi mesa drivers (AMD 7950) Wine 1.9.23

--- Comment #1 from altiris28048@gmail.com --- So I went as far back as wine 1.7.52 ...and the weird mouse glitch is still occuring...this would mean that is a configuration file or something causing this? I guess I should clear my .wine directory?

--- Comment #2 from altiris28048@gmail.com --- So I deleted my .wine directory, re-installed latest Wine and the issue still persists. This means that it has to be the Thief game itself then, yes?

--- Comment #3 from fjfrackiewicz@gmail.com --- Can you try disabling any sort of mouse acceleration? Perhaps that might have an effect...

I ran some more testing and it appears to be NOT a wine related problem but a hardware related problem with Linux. I loaded up Minecraft and Garry's Mod and a very similar issue happens, though nowhere near as borked as it occurs on Thief Gold. Every once in a while on Garry's Mod my aim will randomly stutter/go back for a second if I move the mouse in a direction, its almost like it is lag. I am sorry for wasting your time but I think this is NOT a wine issue.
I have this running in a .sh file everyime I load my DE,
id="pointer:Neo Reflection Neo Reflection Finger Mouse"; speed=0.778; xinput set-prop 8 "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" $speed, 0, 0, 0, $speed, 0, 0, 0, 1
I wonder if that is what is causing it, it used to not cause any issues before.

--- Comment #5 from altiris28048@gmail.com --- Started Cinnamon DE without that .sh file that I posted about before, 0 issues now with Thief Gold. I can't believe that is what it was. I had not used Linux for several months so I forgot about the .sh file I had running at startup. I need to find another way to disable mouse accel though.
Issue is not wine related, can close, thank you!
