gray office help window. Does not load.

I am going to attach screenshots. Topics seem to be listed, but when viewing a
topic just a blank gray window and the topic window says "Unable to connect to
Microsoft office online".

console log using help in Word 2003

Uploading the console log from using help in Word 2003.

Using native wininet gets rid of the "Unable to connect to Microsoft Office
Online" message, but the help topic still does not display.

console log using help in Word 2003 with native wininet

Here's the console log from trying with native wininet.

I did notice the lines

err:winebrowser:get_url_from_dde Unable to retrieve URL from string L"""
err:winebrowser:wmain Usage: winebrowser URL

which is bug 13891. I tried the workaround in that bug, and while it did get
rid of those two lines in the console, it did not solve the problem.

Both console logs I have uploaded are with riched20 set to native. I did try
without that override and it makes no difference.

I can confirm the bug with wine 1.1.23 using Microsoft Office 2003 SP3

Still present in 1.2-rc5. In Office 2007 apps, clicking the ? icon now does
nothing at all--no messages, not even in the console. In Office 2003 apps, the
Help panel opens, and you can view the table of contents and search, but
attempting to view a help item produces an "unable to connect to Microsoft"
message if online help is selected, and just opens a blank window for offline
help.

In 1.4-rc2:

Office 2007 & 2010--online help works, and displays the results in the system's
default browser; searching offline help produces an unformatted list of topics
that should be links to articles, but which aren't.

Office 2003--online help now opens Wine's IE with a blank window, but other
than that the situation is the same as in comment 12.

Office 2007 help is working well for me after
8eb70459a18f6d8a80c9570875e2c664e6afbb56 in today's Wine push, which will be
included in Wine 1.5.22.

Office 2003 help is still in bad shape.

Here's my analysis of MSO2k3 help:

The MSO2k3 help system uses several different CHM files, which refer to each
other. It loads up "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\1033\ofmain11.chm", which eventually contains references to
"mk:@msitstore:msohlp11.chm::/html/office10.css".

These references fail because they're relative. The CWD is out in the
C:\windows\system32 directory instead of in the "1033" directory where the
first CHM was loaded. I haven't figured out yet which module is responsible for
resolving the relative link.

CoInternetCombineUrlEx doesn't seem to be smart enough to interpret
mk:@msitstore URLs. ITSS doesn't seem to get enough information to resolve such
a reference.

So who resolves the relative reference?

Offline help works for Office 2003 and both online and offline help work for
Office 2007.

Online help does not work for Office 2003 because its support ended in April,
2014.
