bug in wine version 1.0 RC2 -> BF2

I tried to start Battlefield 2 and I get this error (screenshot)
In terminal I get this (see error.log)

Bug has occured first in wine version 1.0RC2

Did this happen with earlier versions of Wine? According to appdb, the game
seems to work ok for other people.

I'm experiencing the exact same error with Battlefield 2142. Using Wine 1.1.0
and native d3dx9_24.dll (grabbed from dll-files.com)
