--- Comment #1 from Animajosser animajosser@gmail.com --- Version: Steam (with patch: https://github.com/CookiePLMonster/SilentPatchBully (Build 3))
I could reproduce this when installing the DirectX redistributables.
Testing with wine 6.2, I can't even get it to start. It crashes in a fresh wine prefix on a page fault. I get log 1 in file backtrace_excerpts.txt.
When having the DirectX redistributables installed in that same prefix, it crashes during start (during a loading screen) or early in the game: It looks like it happens when clicking the mouse. I get log 2 in file backtrace_excerpts.txt.
With a non-fresh prefix (so, with safe files) I get log 3 in file backtrace_excerpts.txt.
However I do not encounter the issue with wine 4.21, it's working and there are no complaints in the standard or error output (it still requires installing the DirectX redistributables that come with the game though). Note: it is a little unstable (i.e. infrequent crashes and start issues), but that might be completely unrelated as the game doesn't even work on windows without patches.
I am not experienced enough in wine to pinpoint the regression (if you can even call it that), but I read that open implementations of XACT were added, so this might be related to that. Also I encountered that this game needs an ASF-codec for certain media playback. I had to install some ugly 32-bit gstreamer plugins, so that might also be related.

--- Comment #4 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Does the bug still occur with wine-9.12?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49696
--- Comment #5 from Animajosser animajosser@gmail.com --- Yes, I can confirm that the issue still persists. Without the wineprefix existing, I ran the command: "WINEPREFIX=.wine wine bully". This resulted in electronic garbled noise. Running "WINEPREFIX=.wine winetricks xact" solves the issue.
