Summary: Might and Magic VII, VIII Movie Problems. Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: trivial Priority: P1 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Andy4590@yahoo.com
Movies now work for both Might and Magic VII and VIII. However they are in black and white. They should be in color. I am attaching log files and associating this bug with both applications, as it seems to be the same bug.

--- Comment #3 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2009-01-02 15:19:46 --- With latest wine (1.1.11) and clean prefix I do not have these issues.

Log from version 1.1.9 of wine with same problem. Funnily enough, that problem shows only(!) when mm8 is running with virtual desktop set-up - if You change your Xorg.conf to use 16bit screen modes and run the game in fullscreen, movies are in full color. I'm currently downloading 1.1.13, so will soon re-test with that version to see if there's any change to that behavior.

--- Comment #6 from Michał m.strzalkowski@gmail.com 2009-01-22 16:00:45 --- OK, after further testing it seams, that this issue is only showing when You turn off pixel shader support in winecfg, regardles of version(tested both on 1.1.9 and 1.1.13), fullscreen or virtual desktop, vertex shader configuration or allowing Direct-X apps to steal mouse pointer. If it's important(and I think it might be), I'm running NVIDIA GPU GeForce 7025 / NVIDIA nForce 630a (C68) with 180.22 nvidia driver(latest stable, AFAIK). Please note, if that's not clear already - with pixel shader on, I have perfectly OK *fully colored* movies at the start of Might&Magic VIII, so this is basically a configuration problem, not software bug, per se. At least for me. :P

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-07-30 12:12:55 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.26 or newer) wine?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14954
--- Comment #8 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2010-05-03 13:07:33 --- I am able to watch the intro movies of MM7 properly in current git (1.1.43).

--- Comment #9 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2011-01-09 15:03:01 CST --- Pinging again. For me in current git and pixel shader allowed (1.3.11) the movies work fine. With pixel shader disabled the game crashes, so my understanding is that pixel shader is a requirement of the game.
