Bug ID: 35173 Summary: Loud audio distortion using wine 1.7.6 and up. Product: Wine Version: 1.7.6 Hardware: x86 OS: FreeBSD Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wineoss.drv Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: asfw@sutolyst.me.uk Classification: Unclassified
When running applications with wine version 1.7.6 to 1.7.8, I get some nasty loud sound distortion when certain sounds play. It’s not constant, but it is frequent. Wine 1.7.5 is the last version without this bug. There is no relevant error message printed.
This is on FreeBSD, so the sound driver used is wineoss.drv, but I don’t know if this is where the problem lies.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- As a guess, 39185814b1e51348d50458632f44e0756fba8426 or maybe 3cb2ddfd09d5986614e028aa413e71e7624d2470 are worth checking.

--- Comment #3 from Andrew Eikum aeikum@codeweavers.com --- A log with the channels from http://wiki.winehq.org/Sound could help. It would also be useful to know which applications or sounds cause this.

--- Comment #5 from David Naylor naylor.b.david@gmail.com --- Based on my testing it is the commit 3cb2ddfd09d5986614e028 that introduces the sound defects, although for me it is rather subtle when playing Warcraft 3. Other games of mine do not have this sound defect.

--- Comment #6 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Is this still an issue in Wine 1.7.33 or later?

--- Comment #7 from David Naylor naylor.b.david@gmail.com --- Sound is now crystal clear for me. Tested on quite a few games (including the original game that gave issues: Warcraft 3).

--- Comment #8 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Nothing changed in msacm32 after the commit that introduced the regression, but if its working now I guess it's OK to mark as fixed.
