I installed DX 9.0c like in this guide: http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2007/11/directx-90c-on-linux-with-wine.html after that I set dinput8.dll to native (for keyboard, otherwise it doesn't work). Installation went fine, applying 1.2 patch went without problems.

--- Comment #31 from Julian Rüger jr98@gmx.net 2008-04-13 17:33:37 --- Tried a few times without sound, one time it played the ingame race-intro and crashed afterwards, one time I was able to drive the whole race (with native dinput8.dll, see Bug 8754) about 5 times it crashed with "invalid float operation in 32-bit code" just like with sound enabled.
Its just like I observed in Most Wanted, sound might not be the cause of the problem, but makes it worse. See Bug 9359 and Bug 6183 about that (these bugs may all be duplicates).
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10501
--- Comment #32 from Julian Rüger jr98@gmx.net 2008-04-18 09:02:28 --- NfS Underground 1 is affected, too. It crashes everytime you try to race; menu and stuff works fine. Without sound, you cant even enter main menu, it crashes right after the intro vids, when you are asked to press enter. It's exactly at the time it displays (tries to display) the "EA-TRAX" thing in the lower left corner, with the song info.
Error message is always the same: "Unhandled exception: invalid float operation in 32-bit code"
This Bug affects every Need for Speed since Underground 1, and is the only real showstopper that renders them unplayable.
(Carbon says "denormal float operand in 32-bit code" and "divide by zero in 32-bit code" without sound)
It would be really nice if someone, who has an idea of whats going on, could look into this.

Hi Henri, i know i owe you this one and other NFS retest. But mailbox is currently over flooded, so jumping around different things.
Confirming, FIXED in wine-1.2-rc1-142-ga72f3f3.
Particular commit (wine-1.2-rc1-103-ge6611e2): http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=e6611e22fb037a879205f1330d...
This is the game together with NFSU1, which attracted me to wine project, but when finding that's unusable, bugzilla attracted me even stronger ;) So many thanks Henri for fixing!
PS: Tested NFSU2 patched to v1.2, using crack (Reloaded --otherwise crashes due to copy protection), winetricks dinput8 and i could ride quick race few rounds. When i reverted the commit, NFSU2 crashes soon.
