Summary: age of wonders 2: the application does not get any mouse input Product: Wine Version: 0.9.45. Platform: PC URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version &iId=8746 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-x11driver AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: sick_soul@yahoo.it
Input from the mouse does not seem to reach the application. I tried running the application's setup program, switching between mouse in "color mode", "black & white" mode and "software mode".
The colorful surface that represents the mouse pointer shows on the top-left part of the screen, but does not move in response to mouse movement.
I tried running with a native dinput.dll, but there was no difference. Therefore I set WINEDEBUG=dinput, and saw nothing in the trace. I don't know which WINEDEBUG values to try in this case.
I was not sure which component to pick from the list, and I went with x11driver, but I have no idea if the issue is really there.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2007-10-12 23:29:35 --- Please use more recent Wine version. If there is a demo of the program, pleas try if it exhibits the same problem. And if so add a link to it here.

Hmm, this seems to work for me using the demo with Wine 0.9.50; the demo doesn't exactly work flawlessly (I'll file a few bugs), but I don't see this particular issue.
It depends on (relative) process priorities. See appdb entry for age of wonders: shadow magic for more info and a script that sets the process priorities as to work around this bug.
Bug still there for wine 1.0rc3.

--- Comment #7 from Christopher Lindemann christopher.lindemann@gmail.com 2008-07-18 12:09:35 --- I can confirm that this bug still exists in Wine 1.1.1. Present in both Age of Wonders 2, and Age of Wonders Shadow Magic.
I do not see a complete lack of input, as suggested in the bug title, however keyboard and mouse input on both games is delayed with severity varying depending on the process priority.

Renice 19 wineserver works for me, but when using WINEDEBUG the mouse pointer will not move. Am guessing that the extra debug info changes the priority of the wineserver.
There is a new xinput.dll, will this fix the renice issue ?
Rob.

--- Comment #12 from Athrun samurai_no_densetsu@yahoo.es 2012-03-26 18:58:15 CDT --- It is no longer an issue on wine 1.5.0 in my setup (or at least in the GOG.com version). Works fine with all cursor settings (software cursor has a small delay compared to the hardware ones, but all are working fine).

--- Comment #13 from Lucas Fialho Zawacki lfzawacki@yahoo.com.br 2012-07-17 22:34:34 CDT --- No longer an issue with the demo version posted in the comments in Wine 1.5.8. Mouse works without any need for setting process priority and regardless of the cursor option selected. During gameplay the game and the mouse seem a little laggy when using Direct3D, but disabling it makes everything nice and snappy.

--- Comment #16 from Sverd Johnsen sverd.johnsen+wine@gmail.com --- I ran into this problem today with with wine-1.7.31 -- using Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic v1.3 from GOG.
I had to renice the wineserver to make it run properly. As soon as the renice is done the game seems to start working well immediately and responds to mouse clicks. Without it I couldn't even get past the start menu.
