Bug #: 30322 Summary: Securom 7.27 unhappy with some compilers? (affects Sid Meier's Railroads Demo) Product: Wine Version: 1.5.1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com Classification: Unclassified
On Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, the app from bug 11059, 9cf82945770bc4b959964ae28f8966759e9d5cda RailroadsDemo.zip aborts on startup, complaining "A required security module cannot be activated." "This program cannot be executed (3000)." A scan of the demo shows that it's protected with securom 7.27.
The problem persists even if you build wine with gcc-4.5.

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-03-31 16:39:42 CDT --- On Fedora 16 the demo starts fine (after disabling the VBlankSynch option in Settings.ini). I tested with the following GCC versions (all of them worked):
gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-22.fc15) gcc version 4.5.3 (GCC) gcc version 4.6.3 20120306 (Red Hat 4.6.3-2) (GCC)

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-03-31 18:47:49 CDT --- Ubuntu 12.04 also uses gcc-4.6.3. So it's sounding like it's not the compiler, changing description.

--- Comment #3 from troublepanic@gmail.com 2012-05-01 21:15:56 CDT --- Bug also affects Borderlands(Steam). Oddly enough, it only stopped working after the update to 12.04.
(3000) means that Securom detected SoftIce, a Windows kernel debugger. What's new in 12.04 that could trip that up?
