Bug #: 33962 Summary: Wine stopped working for me Product: Wine Version: 1.6-rc4 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: vanish@arcor.de Classification: Unclassified
Sorry, it's just that I wanted to say before you release a new version.
Since several Wine versions many - not say nearly all but one - of mine Windows applications stopped working.
I have now tested and found that V1.5.24 works perfectly e.g. with Dragon Age II, while 1.6-rc4 doesn't even let me to the configuration screen.
Same prefix. Same compilation options (I use Gentoo, therefore I can change, and I tried, but without any success...)
Please give me a hint how I exactly can help.

Closing line is Segmentation Fault. How can I supply a version with symbols attached that makes sense to you?

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-07-07 14:39:28 CDT --- Have you tried a clean wineprefix?
If the problem persists in a clean wineprefix, please run a regression test. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #4 from yanestra vanish@arcor.de 2013-07-07 15:04:14 CDT --- I tried several times with different versions. Last working stable for me seems 1.5.24. With 1.6rc4 it seems impossible to reproduce an error. Sometimes wine throws segmentation fault, sometimes dies silently, sometimes gives a popup, sometimes lengthy command line output, sometimes an empty window appears.
Somehow the problem seems gcc related. Stepping back to gcc 4.5 (as recommended) made wine stop crashing, instead now I get that empty window. I will continue later with more systematic tests.

I have cleared the prefix and made wine new without -O2 but with -ggdb. Then used winetricks to install the necessary packages it was working perfectly with. This all with WINEARCH=win32, otherwise some DLLs couldn't be installed. After the first start (with crash & wrong resolution, see backtrace.txt) the application won't start again giving only a crash popup (see backtrace3.txt).

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-07-08 14:44:42 CDT --- What gcc version are you using? gcc-4.8 is known broken for win64, unless using 4.8.1.
In any case, a regression test is the most useful you can give us.

--- Comment #7 from yanestra vanish@arcor.de 2013-08-03 20:28:26 CDT --- Seemingly, it was my mistake - actually I shouldn't have used Gentoo's option gstreamer. Leaving that one away makes everything work perfectly.
