Summary: Sibelius 4, line-breaks, text overlap Product: Wine Version: 0.9.60 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: werner.zangerle@gmx.at
No line breaks in Sibelius 4. Text on the score that should have line breaks shows up all in the same line, making it impossible to read it. Time Signature is also affected, when using a 4/4 signature only on "4" shows up, when using a more complicated one, both numbers are printed on another.

--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-04-23 13:40:55 --- I see a Sibelius 5 demo on their website. Does that have the same problem? Can you attach screenshots showing what it looks like on Wine and how it should look?

i don't know why the background is red, maybe caused by another bug

This is between minor and trivial. So far this is only one program affected.
Please correctly set _your_ Hardware and OS.

--- Comment #5 from Éml aehmel@wp.pl 2008-10-12 12:42:50 --- There is no easy workaround; the bug makes the program hardly usable, since one cannot substitute time signatures with other text styles when extracting parts. So severity of this bug shall be set to "normal" (at least).

--- Comment #6 from werner zangerle werner.zangerle@gmx.at 2008-10-12 13:06:32 --- I agree, i changed it back to normal, where it was before i tried to change it to major, where it should be, IMHO. after all, this is what keeps me, and as far as i can i see from reading on the AppDB page of Sibelius and from reading in the internet, many others from using it. The only possible time signature to use is 4/4, every other looks ridiculous and is not readable. The same is valid for multi-line text. After all this is not a sequencer or something similar, this program is used to prepare musical scores, parts and lead sheets for print.

--- Comment #7 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-01-30 15:30:25 --- I cannot replicate this bug on Sibelius 4 with WINE 1.1.13.
This was a clean install with the proper workarounds to enable basic functionality (gdiplus.dll, msttcorefonts package, TiMidity).
Perhaps this bug was fixed upstream in an earlier WINE release. Has anybody experienced this problem with a newer WINE version?
Reporter claims bug was present in WINE 0.9.60.

What's wrong with builtin gdiplus? File a bug for that please for version 1.1.14.

As far as I know (since it was a couple weeks back), gdiplus.dll didn't exist in the /system32 folder. I needed to download a copy from the internet (or a suitable replacement from a Windows box).

Wine has gdiplus support, we just don't have a fake dll in system32. Does your app depend on that? If so, just making an empty file there should have the same effect.

Hello Austin,
As per your above suggestion, I proceeded to replace the windows gdiplus.dll with an empty file with the same name.
An error message occurred with the statement: "gdiplus.dll is either missing or not working because of a system configuration problem. Some display smoothing functionality will be unavailable."
However, upon quick testing of the program, Sibelius now runs smoother with the built-in WINE dll. Click-and-Drag is much more responsive, as is shifting titles/text around.
Three cheers for an excellent (and legal) workaround. Would the "missing" dll be a suitable candidate for bugzilla for inclusion in the next WINE version?

You need to recreate ~/.wine to take affect of this change.

--- Comment #17 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-04-30 17:16:08 --- Hm. I am now experiencing this bug. Perhaps it is a regression in the latest WINE release. As far as I know, this was fine during 1.1.19, so it might be a new thing in 1.1.20.
Also, as a result of this, I cannot select text in Sibelius, which is a fairly notable loss of functionality.

Ok. No 1.0.x will be released as far as I know. So hopefully it will work with 1.2.0.
