It seems that the problem still exist even for the latest Wine version (1.3.24).
CS 1.6 randomly freezes and hangs my computer leading to shutting down the computer and hard reboot.
My graphic card is : HIS Radeon HD 4670 (AGP). However, it seems that my card is not supported with open source drivers from ATI, so ive just installed drivers corresponding to HD 4600 series, that is PCI-Express modules. Do any of you guys know if there exists drivers or maybe a xorg.conf file for my card?
Nevertheless, I will test that workaround (pkill -CONT "hl2.exe") tomorrow and see if that fix my problem.
It's not freezing and hanging your computer, per se. The freezing is just hl2.exe(or in your case, hl.exe). The OS is running otherwise normally, you just need to SSH in and pkill -CONT hl.exe and it will continue. hl.exe, like other games, captures mouse and keyboard(leaving it impossible to do anything when it hangs) so SSH is a must here.
