I made a fresh install of Mint 9 (rc) on a Dell Vostro 1000 running AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. Mint 9 (release candidate) is Ubuntu 10.04 but with a decent user interface. The first action on the new install was to load Wine and try to load the windows based program "Memory Map" found here: http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/mmv5/mmv5_os_513.exe It failed with the message "This software requires IE 4 or later". See screen shot. The terminal output is given as an attachment.
Memory Map runs under Mint 8 32 bit release.

--- Comment #3 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-05-08 17:21:27 --- It seems curious that the reporter is running the installer off what seems to be CD-ROM media. Are the checksums of the installer on CD-ROM and from the download link identical?

austin@midna:~$ sha1sum mmv5_os_513.exe 2bfadf6f95e127d96f5ee2a5a137b003f699baa0 mmv5_os_513.exe
Not sure about cdrom.

--- Comment #5 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-05-08 20:45:14 --- Yeah, the question was more intended for the reporter. Given:
err:msi:ACTION_CallDllFunction failed to load dll L"C:\users\peter\Temp\msi684a.tmp" (998) err:msi:ACTION_CallDllFunction failed to load dll L"C:\users\peter\Temp\msi68b6.tmp" (998)
This makes me wonder whether the CD-ROM media is somehow noexec, and I want to know what happens when the installer is copied to the home directory and run from there with a clean Wine prefix.

--- Comment #6 from peter@peterwpaintings.co.uk 2010-05-09 06:46:23 --- I have copied the program from the CD to the Desktop on a clean install of Mint 9 (based on Ubuntu 10.04). The file's execution bit is not set and will not run until changed.
When the file on the Desktop has it's execute bit set and run using a right click and "open with wine Windows program loader" it produces the same error "requires IE4 or later" as before. So no difference if run from from the Desktop or mounted CD.
Ubuntu have introduced a number of feature-bugs in 10.04 one of which is to stop the execution of programs on a CD unless mounted as shown in the attachment. (You can't right click a program on a CD and open with wine.) I don't know why but there is probably a good reason!
Hope this helps. I check emails daily if you need more. Thanks for your efforts, if I can't get memory map to run I will have to stick with the 32 bit version of Mint 9.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2012-03-19 14:52:35 CDT --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 650 days. Is this still an issue in current (1.4 or newer) wine?
