Launch Winetricks.
Select "Select the default wineprefix"
Select "Install a Windows DLL or component"
Select "vcrun2008"
Error message:

"Installation package could not be opened.
Contact the application vendor that this is a valid Windows Installer package"

"Note: Command 'wine vcredist_x86.exe' returned status 84. Aborting"

[Bug 38492] vcrun2008 does not install via Winetricks under Kubuntu 15.04. Works in Kubuntu 14.04.

A) Please retest in 1.7.41.
B) If the wine version didn't change between your OS upgrade, it's more likely
a bug UPSTREAM.
C) Please attach the terminal output. Also make sure you're using an up to date
winetricks.

wine is version wine-1.6.2 for both Kubuntu 14.04 (works) and Kubuntu 15.04
(fails).

winetricks is 20150416 for Kubuntu 14.04
winetricks is 20140302 for Kubuntu 15.04 (older ?!?!)

based on this, should I upgrade to winetricks 20150416 in Kubuntu 15.04?

There is no terminal output.  I could attach screenshots of the GUI error
messages, but my initial post included the entirety of the GUI error messages.

Upgrading Wine per the recently posted:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine1.7 winetricks
