Summary: Gizmo5: Does not install from clean .wine directory due to lack of Windows OS version (needs XP/2000 or above) Product: Wine Version: 1.1.22 Platform: PC URL: http://gizmo5.com/pc/download/#gizmo31 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: novakyu@novakyu.net
When installing the latest version of Gizmo (4.0.5) with fresh .wine directory, the install fails because no OS version is specified in system.reg by default (a dialog saying that XP/2000 or above is required shows up before installer quits), even though when winecfg is run, it does have Windows XP selected (but nothing in the system.reg indicates that).
If the version is changed to 2000 then Gizmo installs fine. If the version is changed *back* to XP (so that OS version specification is in system.reg), Gizmo again installs fine.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-05-30 19:54:52 --- Do you get an error that wineboot timed out?

--- Comment #2 from Andrzej Novak novakyu@novakyu.net 2009-05-31 01:36:35 --- Yes, I do get that error. Starting from fresh, or rather, no, .wine directory, I get,
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out
when I try to run WinGizmoInstall.exe with wine, or when I run wineboot separately on its own. If I go through the steps that fixed the installation problem (i.e. run winecfg and select some OS version), the problem with wineboot also goes away.

--- Comment #3 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2009-05-31 06:31:42 --- Where did you get the Wine packag from?

--- Comment #4 from Andrzej Novak novakyu@novakyu.net 2009-05-31 07:39:22 --- It's installed from source (from: http://www.winehq.org/download/; source download at the bottom). It's compiled on a Debian Squeeze system after running apt-get build-dep wine. Older versions of wine and libwine were removed prior to compiling from source. The exact commands for compiling and installing wine was, in the directory from tarball: ./configure && make dep && make && sudo make install.
But I had the same trouble with the .deb package (for Debian) available from the same link.
