Bug ID: 38012 Summary: Shivers video does not play in fullscreen Product: Wine Version: 1.7.35 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: legluondunet@free.fr Distribution: ---
Hello,
the last road to a 100% Shivers Wine compatibility is near. But it stays a very annoying bug: Shivers videos (VDM video files from Sierra) don't play in fullscreen, but in their original resolution, very tiny resolution, in the upper left corner of the screen...
LGDN.

--- Comment #2 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- I cannot reproduce this, the game runs fine in its 640x480 window. The videos play inside the game window occupying most of the space with the exception of the life bar below. Tested in 1.6 and 1.7.54.

--- Comment #9 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- This is interesting. In my computer the videos are rendered just like in Windows. Since the game uses its own DLL files to play the videos I have no idea what to do. Also we are running different versions of the game (I could not find a version description anywhere) as my game is in English.

--- Comment #11 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- Did you install a third dll? (videos codecs, directx 9...).
From my side I only installed the game.
I can not install the Video for WIndows from the CD, it crashes. What Windows version did you choose? I tried with 98 and XP.

--- Comment #13 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- I'm using a clean wine prefix (no external DLL files and XP as windows version), during the game installation it attempts to install Video for Windows but the installer complains it is not designed for Windows NT.
The game videos use a proprietary Sierra codec so I don't even know why it tries to install Video for Windows.

--- Comment #14 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
I found a distributed backup of the original game from 1995.
The win16 game crashes with default 'Windows XP' but runs well with any 'Windows 9x' setting.
Same as Bruno, I can't confirm have the video issue there, displays fine as shown in your Windows screenshots ("interlaced" view).

--- Comment #15 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- I bought the CD version (french) a long time ago. I uninstall my Nvidia drivers and launch the game with Xorg nouveau: same bug. I downloaded Shivers english version (just for testing): same bug, with or without Nvidia drivers I have this bug whatever the Ubuntu, Wine, Nvidia drivers version. But if I launch the game in Dosbox or Virtualbox, the video display "interlaced" view.

--- Comment #16 from legluondunet@free.fr legluondunet@free.fr --- Could you put this bug as a a duplicate of 39768? Finally it is more a limitation from the game, it has not a true fullscreen mode and the videos are not automatically adapted to the desktop resolution. To play Shivers on modern computer/Screens, it misses a feature to wine to scale/stretch the game screen to the desktop resolution, like Dosbox, ScummVM and many emulators already did.

--- Comment #17 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- For unknown reasons I'm now able to reproduce the issue. Suddenly the very same old prefix I used to test is now playing the video in half resolution. And in many attempts this is still not working. So somehow there is a real bug.
