5.7 does not allow WoW to run, at least on the retail BFA.  I have not checked
classic. If I revert to 5.6, everything works as expected, and the game works.

Just to make sure, you are talking about wine-staging 5.7 and wine-staging 5.6?

Is vanilla wine also affected, or must staging be used because of other issues?

Hello folks,

dupe of 49011 for sure. Various Blizzard games are affected due to the way
anti-cheat/hack is implemented. Doesn't matter that Wine-Staging is used here
since it inherited the regression from mainline.
