Bug #: 34710 Summary: Can't register/login with Kindle for PC Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rosc2112@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified
Trying to register Kindle for Pc so it'll login to my amazon account, it's giving an error "Registration Failed, please try again (99)
Upgraded the latest version of wine, v 1.6 and still having the same problem, except now I'm not even getting any kind of info from the commandline that would indicate what the problem is. Previous version 1.4 was at least indicating there was a problem connecting via ssl, so I found some posts indicating the problem might be tls, hence I upgraded hoping this issue was resolved, but, apparently not?
All I'm getting for errors is:
fixme:imm:NotifyIME IMC_SETCANDIDATEPOS fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x2002a, 0x3e52fb8): stub fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33c944 fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33cc14 fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33d314 fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33c944 fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33ccd4 fixme:imm:NotifyIME IMC_SETCANDIDATEPOS fixme:imm:NotifyIME IMC_SETCANDIDATEPOS fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33c9e4 fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl WS_SIO_UDP_CONNRESET stub
Any clues for me? :)

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-10-12 14:43:00 CDT --- Registering works fine here in 1.7.4. Upgrade and reinstall to a clean wineprefix.

--- Comment #2 from rosc2112@yahoo.com 2013-10-12 18:37:34 CDT --- I did, this was compiled from source and installed in /usr/local/wine-1.6 with a symlink to /usr/local/wine. I always install wine into its own dir, just to avoid clobbering a working version with a new, untested (by me) version :)
This is on a slackware based system, so it may be some issue with other libs. But I don't know how to go about narrowing down the culprit.

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- Is this still an issue for you in 1.7.14 or later?

I did, this was compiled from source and installed in /usr/local/wine-1.6 with a symlink to /usr/local/wine.
Don't do that. If you don't want to replace an existing install, just run the new version from the build directory.

--- Comment #4 from Dora Smith tiggernut24@yahoo.com --- I'm having exactly the same problem. I can't register; I enter my Amazon login and submit and the program crashes.
Also it does let me open and read books, but when I close it the entire program crashes.
I tried every workaround I found online. I tried an older version of Kindle reported to work. I tried renaming a certain file in Wine that allegedly interferes with Kindle.
Only thing that improved was the registration form appeared on the popup registratoin window.
I don't know how in God's great name multiple people at Wine are giving Kindle a gold or platinum rating and saying it works great with no problems and you don't need to do any alterations to get it to work.
I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 yesterday.

--- Comment #5 from Dora Smith tiggernut24@yahoo.com --- I just got the current version to work properly in Playonlinux. But nothing seemed to get any version to work in Wine.

If yes, are you sure this isn't a duplicate of either bug 29045 or bug 35041, both of which can cause crashes if not worked around?
