The game starts and works, but the gameplay is slow. The intro, menu and
gameplay is slow.

This performance problem affects all Windows apps on my system.

Works Smooth: OpenBVE, Angry Birds.

Works with LAG: GTA San Andreas, Freedom Fighters, Call of Duty

Here is Wine console output while running Angry Birds :

Also know that I used to play GTA San Andreas smoothly in older version of Wine
in Ubuntu 10.04

You need to retest this game, using 1.8 or 1.9 series of wine.

You really need to upgrade your wine.

But you could also test if stating the game like this would help.

WINEDEBUG=-all, wine game.exe
