--- Comment #1 from Julian Rüger jr98@gmx.net --- I remember that back in the days RPGmaker used MIDI for background music. If that still is the case, this may not be a wine bug after all; please check http://wiki.winehq.org/MIDI although it says on OSX it is supposed to work OOTB.
See if you can play MIDI files in wine.

--- Comment #2 from Alexander Altman alexanderaltman@me.com --- The game's music is indeed in MIDI format; however, not only can I can play MIDI files in Wine, but I can play the MIDI files the game uses directly from other Windows programs (such as Windows Media Player and WinAmp) entirely from within Wine. I can also play the files natively through QuickTime, so they're not the issue.

--- Comment #3 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- I can confirm this issue in linux, winetricks directmusic does not solve the issue. I have timidity installed to play midi files but I'm not sure wine uses it.

--- Comment #5 from Alexander Altman alexanderaltman@me.com --- Just confirming that this bug is still not fixed in 1.9.5.

--- Comment #6 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- Still present in wine-6.5-275-gac65e154096.
`winetricks -q gmdls directmusic` works around.

--- Comment #7 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Recently, a lot of work was done in directmusic.
Does the bug still occur with wine-8.17?
