Summary: World of warcraft graphical corruption preventing play Product: Wine Version: 0.9.58. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P1 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: russell.h@blueyonder.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=11747) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11747) wine command line output
I have been unable to play with wine since the patch. I can start the game and login, the login screen looks fine. When I get to the character screen this is what I see img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24errornj5.png (screenshot). Black text and missing graphics.
This is my view in game. No interface and graphics are rendered incorrectly. img413.imageshack.us/my.php?image=orgrimmarlsdah9.png (screenshot)
I am running Ubuntu 7.10, wine 0.9.58 and catalyst 8.3 drivers. Everything ran flawlessly before wow patch 2.4. I have tried adding and removing all the registry and config tweaks I had added. If I run the game without the SET gxApi "opengl" line it runs successfully and graphics are rendered correctly but only runs at 10fps.
I have attached a copy of my wine output.

--- Comment #3 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2008-04-01 05:45:57 --- This sounds like a ATI driver bug as also no nvidia users have reported this problem. We aren't doing much emulation in our opengl driver (we directly pass everything to libGL.so), so it is mostly likely a driver bug which wasn't hit in previous WoW versions. Also try to use an older driver version to see if the problem goes away then.

--- Comment #6 from Michael mjblk@roadrunner.com 2008-05-04 22:21:30 --- I have this problem or something very similar. When i run WoW on wine as OpenGL i get a blank screen with a white outline where the username and password textboxes are. It seems to let me in but i can't tell as I see no graphics. If i run WoW without the SET gxApi "openGL" i see the login screen, but it flashes the desktop and I only get 8 - 10 fps.
I too and running the latest linux version from ATI on a Radeon 1300x.
Any help would be appreciated. Even if its an ATI driver issue as it seems.

I can ONLY see the login picture if i let the intro run through it self and not pressing any keys to stop it. Then and ONLY then i see the login screen and all. Else i have a black screen with the theme sound going in the background.

--- Comment #8 from Kori MacCara kori.maccara@gmail.com 2008-07-01 07:35:36 --- I had a problem very similar to the one you describe. I got memory violations when trying to start the game I have AMD64 with ATI Radeon 700 running Ubuntu/Hardy and wine 1.1.0.
Disabling fglrx allowed the game to run, but it was painful! I upgraded to Catalyst 8.6 (Ubuntu repository only has 8.3) and I was able to get the game to run.
To upgrade your fglrx drivers to the latest version of Catalyst see the following documentation: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Hardy_Installation_Guide#Method_2:_M...
I'm now experiencing a lot of flicker and I'm trying to find a configuration that will work better than my current setup. However the game is playable :)

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |segfault@hardline.org
--- Comment #10 from segfault segfault@hardline.org 2008-07-04 15:28:16 --- I had similar problems with both an ATI Radeon 9600 128MB and an ATI Radeon X1400 256MB on two different machines. The former runs Fedora Core 9 x86_64 on AMD and the latter runs Kubuntu 8.04 32-bit on a Core 2 Duo. I use the fglrx driver on both.
The fix:
1. Edit Config.wtf and disable the pixel shaders:
SET M2UsePixelShaders "0" SET M2UseShaders "0"
also make sure you have openGL set up:
SET gxApi "opengl"
This fixes several issues with missing text and images on the login screen, char selection screen, etc.
2. Make sure you have the recommended registry tweak applied (HKCU\Software\Wine\OpenGL\DisabledExtensions = GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object)
This fixes some nasty text glitches after going inside buildings, tunnels, etc. This is _really important_ as the game is basically unplayable without it.
Your mileage may vary, of course, but the above works for me. WoW is completely playable and very stable on my systems.
Good luck.

I keep getting these random white outs of what looks like skins of objects in the game in certain places. I get it on certain casts and in dungeons which makes play nearly impossible. I have tried several settings but nothing seems to work.

The newer versions of the ATI driver do not support my card and do not work, I have tried them.
I have also tried the "SET gxApi "opengl"" in the config.wtf and it causes horrendous screen tearing and garbled text.
Im at a total loss on what to do, downgrading to previous wine versions had worked in the past to stop the whiting out but it no longer works for some reason. The white outs occour no matter what version of wine I use.

--- Comment #19 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmail.com 2010-05-28 14:33:37 --- I expect these issues to be display driver bugs (also because you are saying opengl mode is also broken as hell). I'm not aware of these issues on modern fglrx and e.g. Nvidia drivers (see for instance appdb for WoW). Since fglrx won't be updated you might be lucky and be able to run this game using the open source drivers. I'm marking this bug as invalid.
