Bug ID: 50838 Summary: That you can select a specific wine version to be used by a specific prefix Product: Wine Version: 5.22 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: toadfield@tutanota.com Distribution: ---
What I mean is,that you can select, which prefix uses which wine version. That would be handy cause many programs don't work with newest wine version. And the wine launcher often don't have features I need,so that would fix anything.

--- Comment #1 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- This is a not a feature that upstream wine should provide IMO. If you want something like this I would look into a 3rd party wine provider like Lutris or PlayOnLinux/Mac. Do note that these aren't supported on this bugtracker.

It would be nice if you could back this statement up with bug reports, so that these regressions can be fixed.

But PlayOnLinux and Lutris have their problems, for example I can't launch programs in a file manager.

I can do that, but the problem is that it would take longer to report a bug, then wait until it gets fixed, then install the new wine version instead of just selecting another version. And also, some programs only work with custom wine builds like proton.

+1

That sounds like a feature request you should submit to those projects.

It also means the bug actually gets fixed for you and other users, instead of worked around with a bandaid.

That sounds like a feature request you should submit to those projects.
But they have much more problems, cause all of them aren't integrated in the system that good, for example I can't create a prefix with custom settings and then just copy that, cause then I would have to add it and many of those wine managers take long to add prefixes etc. So this feature request would fix it all instead of needing to do 10+ feature requests for those wine managers that would take long to add, cause there are less devs working on those than on wine itself.
It also means the bug actually gets fixed for you and other users, instead of worked around with a bandaid.
You are right,I will report those bugs, but in the time the devs fix it,then I could just use an older version instead of not using the program at all until it gets fixed.

--- Comment #5 from toadfield@tutanota.com --- I get that you won't add it,but could it be possible to change the wine version for a prefix with a different program?
