Prompted by todays wine news, I tried the winetest-latest.exe on my windows xp sp2 machine and received the following notification at the end of the test.
--------------------------- Warning --------------------------- File too big (5.7 MB > 1.5 MB); submitting partial report. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
Is this normal? -- Austin987: No, pretty rare, actually. Would you file a bug report? Attach a compressed copy to it.

--- Comment #1 from Jeff Zaroyko jeffz@jeffz.name 2008-12-16 17:53:39 --- something is strange with your network setup... the huge output is from the ws2_32 tests failing
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16537
--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-12-17 09:44:29 --- Those errors are connection reset by peer/server too busy. Try rebooting your pc, test your internet connection, and retest.

--- Comment #3 from nathan.n saturn_systems@yahoo.com 2008-12-17 14:56:30 --- re comment#2 Rebooted on the next run nn2-winxp-sp2. [ http://test.winehq.org/data/704f9ea5d18cc005b576e1da302cac05463b50f2/#group_... ]
Rebooted again for the run after that nn3-winxp-sp2 which I logged in as a non admin account for that machine and received the same result for the networking.
Then on the same machine booted into ubuntu 8.04 and ran the test under wine 1.1.10 and the test ran successfully ( nn-wine1.1.10 )with no error message about the "File too big".
So apart from my strange network issue in Winxp which is due to be rebuilt in January, does the winetest.exe need to handle larger files or something similar?

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-12-17 15:45:16 --- It was increased to 1.5 MB because Vista has relatively larger files (used to be 1 MB). I don't think it's worth fixing in this case, better to find out why you've got so many failures in winsock.
Adjusting summary accordingly.

do you have any firewall or antivirus software enabled?
Yes on each of the runs I had the Comodo firewall and Clamwin antivirus active.
Just ran another winetest ( nn4-winxp-sp2 ) with both programs stopped and killed thru task manager, and had the same result.

can you try uninstalling your firewall software completely?
Worked!
Why?
For reference I was using Comodo ( CIS_Setup_3.5.55810.432_XP_Vista_x32.exe ) http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ With the default install options.

no idea, ask their product support or if there is an option to exclude programs from being affected by the firewall.
Either way, the problem isn't with the conformance test.
