Can confirm this bug; happens to me too, in all 1.7.x versions I tried. Does not happen in 1.6. No idea why.

--- Comment #3 from Levan levanchelidze@gmail.com --- When using wine version 1.7.38 I did not experience this bug. I can Play this game and log-in without problem So for me the newer wine versions fixed this issue.

This is so interesting how does wine actually works? I can run this game and you can not. and this is not the first time I heard about such situation. I am using ubuntu 14.04 and it works maybe you can share your os information and terminal output so devs can look at it and see what is wrong with wine.

I'm using Linux Mint 17 with Kernel 3.13.0-24-generic, 32-bit system.
Right now I can't find the terminal saves I should have somewhere from last attempt and I can't make any new ones right now because I installed 1.6 over 1.7 again to make it work. Will probably look into it and maybe give it another go later.
But here's another dublicate: https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20525.

--- Comment #7 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
you're likely operating with a broken wineprefix or share the prefix with other steam apps which influence the overall load dependencies.
Don't install winetricks recipes or set overrides unless you know what those imply. Don't share the prefix with other games which use different recipes (overrides).
The terminal logs are not useful, there is not output from the actual game start. Create a trace log as follows:
--- snip --- # ensure no processes running $ wineserver -k
# "cd" to Steam folder "C:/Program Files/Steam"
# start the game with launcher $ WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+relay wine ./steam.exe -applaunch 12900 >>log.txt 2>&1
# CTRL+C or wineserver -k when the message box appears --- snip ---
Compress and attach log file with recent Wine version.
