Bug #: 29788 Summary: Microsoft Word 2007: Crash at saving a file. Product: Wine Version: 1.3.37 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: EagleScreen@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 38697 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=38697 The terminal output.
Word crashes at saving a file, always, the save file dialog does not appears, it crashes before. And word restarts. This also produces an abnormal behavior on the KDE task manager, I only can switch between application by Alt + Tab keys, this stops when I completely close Word and wine.

--- Comment #2 from Rafael Belmonte EagleScreen@gmail.com 2012-02-04 19:48:40 CST --- Why is wine trying to use gnome-keyring? what it is used for? I have nothing to do with gnome-keyring because I don't use Gnome, I use KDE. Is Wine only compatible with Gnome?

I have tested with 1.4~rc1 and I have added the recommended override for riched20.dll and still crashes. I have copied a new terminal output log, I did this: 1) I run word with wine. 2) I type something in word. 3) I click on save icon. 4) Crash dialog appears, I disable the checkbox for restart Word. 5) Word is closed now due the crash. 6) I copy the terminal output.
I don't see any mention to that gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so library. Are you sure that the crash and the gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so call are related?

--- Comment #5 from Rafael Belmonte EagleScreen@gmail.com 2012-02-04 22:07:56 CST --- New information. The crash only happens when Wine is configured to be Windows Vista & Windows 7. Word 2007 can save files property if Wine is set to Windows XP. Therefore the bug would be something like:

And that is another completely different report.

The patch prevents the crash, but the file isn't saved. There's no error message from Word, but the dialog asking where to save the file never appears.

--- Comment #17 from Rik Shaw rikshaw76@gmail.com --- Thank you all for the work done so far.
I can confirm the need for using winver of Vista or Windows 7. The reason is that complex ibus keyboards will not be able to be keyed in Office 2007 otherwise. The other reports of people having trouble keying in ibus keyboards indicate to prepend "env XMODIFIERS=''" to the exec statement to work around the problem, but this just disables ibus input for Office. To type with my ibus keyboards, the only solution is to use a winver of Vista or newer, which then gets us back to the point of this bug.
I am running Ubuntu 14.04, with playonlinux providing versions 1.6.2 (this gives the "crash" on attempting to save) or version 1.7.51 (this just does not save, but does not crash, as others have reported).
Thank you for any help. This is a critical issue for us as we support minority language keyboards and have many legacy Office 2007 documents that simply do not render well with LibreOffice. New document creation is of course going to LO native format, just this pile of legacy stuff! Our users will not be able to successfully manage the complexity of running Windows in a virtual machine inside of Linux, so this bug is key for us to be able to migrate to Linux.

The crash is fixed, this bug should be closed and a new one opened for saving not working.
I would file it, but I don't have MS Word to test with to attach the terminal output ;)

I was going to, but I just tested it in 1.8-rc2 and saving now works when the Windows version is set to Vista or 7. I don't know what fixed it, but based on comment 17 it must have been fairly recent.
