Using the mouse to look up/down and left/right it seems that a check is made
against the screen boundaries and the movement stops. To look more in the
direction one has to release the mouse look key (often right mouse button) and
click it again to move further in that direction.

It doesn't seem like the same bug. It happens when you are in full screen mode
as well. The game does not freeze, it just does not allow you to use mouselook
in that direction. For example:

Windows operation: (With cursor at the middle of the screen)
-click and hold the right mouse button
-move the mouse to the right and the character turns to the right
-keep moving the mouse right to the edge of the screen
-the character keeps turning right when you have reached the edge of the screen

Wine operation: (With cursor at the middle of the screen)
-click and hold the right mouse button
-move the mouse to the right and the character turns to the right
-keep moving the mouse right to the edge of the screen
-the character stops turning right when the cursor reaches the right side of
the screen
-let go of the right mouse button
-move the cursor to the middle of the screen
-click and hold the right mouse button
-move the mouse to the right and the character turns to the right
-and this continues on...

The mouse cursor never leaves the game window. The screen resolution never
needs to be reset in order to play again.

I have the same problem (bugg), and I tried all for fix it but nothing works.
Anyone got any idea for solve that problem please?
