Summary: EvE Online - text boxes corrupted Product: Wine Version: 0.9.45. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: wine-gui AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: normandyh@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=8239) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8239) Screenshot of the text
The text areas in EvE Online display compressed text and wrap random images from cache around the free space. This causes most text areas to be unreadable. The fixed text labels are untouched.

--- Comment #1 from Primož Jeras normandyh@gmail.com 2007-09-27 13:34:16 --- (From update of attachment 8239) The errors are seen on the right-hand station status text and bottom left EvE time. Same errors are usually at the character details (the opened window on the right of the portrait) and chat box.

--- Comment #5 from Primož Jeras normandyh@gmail.com 2007-10-04 12:31:10 --- Yeah, my bad, false alarm about it being fixed.
It was actualyl the fact that I switched to a double monitor desktop. After that, the DPS dropped hideously, but the text boxes were correctly drawn. I copied tahoma at the same time so I mistakenly thought that's what caused it. No idea what's with couble monitoring though. It's probably GPU driver problem.

--- Comment #6 from Andrew Filonov aef@bryansktel.ru 2007-10-09 07:27:07 --- Confirm this bug. Wine 0.9.45-46 with video cards nVidia FX5200/FX5500/128M corrupt all texts.
With 6600/7600 cards - all works fine.
With wined3d.dll.so from 0.9.44 - text boxes displayed corectly. Tested on different boxes FreeBSD-6.2 and latest Gentoo Linux.

--- Comment #8 from Steve Nugent sdnuge@yahoo.com 2007-10-25 10:50:16 --- Confirmed with ATI 9800Pro (fglrx 8.37.6) on Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10, using fresh install of both wine 0.9.47 and downloaded Latest EVE version. Installing wine 0.9.44 "fixed" the issue for me as well.
Chatting with other people on the game is frustrating as I have to copy & paste what they type to the textbox where I type in what I want to say in order to read what they typed, since it doesn't garble as much there.

--- Comment #9 from Steve Nugent sdnuge@yahoo.com 2007-10-25 10:59:19 --- Created an attachment (id=8762) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8762) More examples of garbled text
re: this attachment What I meant by "lowest line in this box" is that I can read what I type in there (or paste in there) but whatever line happens to be the lowest line in that textbox (where I can type in) starts switching between garbled and readable text when I stop typing.

--- Comment #15 from James Wells james_wells@users.sourceforge.net 2007-10-31 10:30:44 --- Greetings,
I can confirm that "workaround" I just replaced the wined3d.dll.so from 0.9.48 with the wined3d.dll.so from 0.9.44 and fired up Eve. Text areas readable again. Just to be sure, I tried the 0.9.44 wined3d.dll.so in 0.9.45 - 0.9.47 and the text corruption went away.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9797
--- Comment #16 from Vorobyov Anton phoenix@mail.ru 2007-11-09 14:02:26 --- Bug still reproduceable in wine 0.9.49
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9797
--- Comment #17 from James Wells james_wells@users.sourceforge.net 2007-11-12 16:16:10 --- Okay, So I have test 0.9.49 with the original wined3d.dll.so and with the 0.9.44 version of wined3d.dlls.so. The 0.9.49 version contains the same text corruption, and the 0.9.44 version corrects the corruption.
Devs, is there an ETA on getting this issue resolved?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9797
--- Comment #18 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-12 17:12:10 --- It sounds like yet another texture transforms issue then. I fixed a regression caused by that patch in .49, but if this issue isn't fixed it is something different.
I'm sorry, but I can't give any ETA on bug fixes. My issue list is long, I am currently the only active developer on this area of direct3d, and I have a real life next to wine too. So please bear with me if bugfixing takes a bit of time.

Works like a charm for be, both the station info as well as the chatbox. This is wine 0.9.49 on a geforce 7400, gentoo.
What sort of GPUs do you have? I read about a geforce 4, are there any newer cards affected too? Maybe this bug occurs only on old cards.

--- Comment #21 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-13 13:42:11 --- Talking about old GPUs, I blacklisted GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two, and I can reproduce the issue now Looks like the NP2 scaling is applied incorrectly.

Can you try this patch? It makes sure that the NP2 scaling factors are applied when stream source changes require a texture transforms reload. In the past, it could happen that the stream sources required a change in the texture transforms, but the required NP2 scalings were not reapplied, leading to missing stretching of the non power of two textures
