Bug ID: 55706 Summary: FL Studio: Freezes when opening main menu Product: Wine Version: 8.17 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: fgoetze@multifuchs.email Distribution: ---
FL Studio slows down and eventually freezes when I open the main menu and hover over the menu items.
This is a new new with FL Studio 21.1.1. With 20.0.1, everything worked fine.
I tried with wine 8.14 and 8.17, both behave the same.
I started FL Studio via command-line, but there are no errors or any lines at all when I open the menu.
I tried it on two systems, Manjaro and Fedora 38, both the same. I use gnome on wayland on both systems.
You can it download it for free here: https://www.image-line.com/fl-studio-download/ Sadly I found no archive with the older version.

--- Comment #1 from fgoetze@multifuchs.email --- Funny thing: I started FL studio with WINEDEBUG=+relay and, although it becomes unusable slow, the menu freeze is gone.

--- Comment #2 from triguy tri.voxel@gmail.com --- I also have this issue. I'm on GNOME Desktop 45 with Wayland, and FL Studio 21.2.3 [build 4004]. I'm personally using the GTK4 app "Bottles" to manage and run my Wine apps. Using any runners in the Wine 8 series has no performance issues. However, using anything with Wine 9.X, I experience this issue. The app runs very well but, any and all popover menus such as context menus, global menus, and audio sources all wind up majorly slowing down or freezing the app entirely.
I'd like to use Wine 9 because it fixes https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/2353 and has better touchpad support such as enabling 1:1 scrolling and horizontal touchpad scrolling.

--- Comment #3 from triguy tri.voxel@gmail.com --- I'd like to follow up by saying the "WINEDEBUG=+relay" option works and fixes the freeze, but the program is noticeably slower now.

--- Comment #4 from triguy tri.voxel@gmail.com --- By the way, for anyone else experiencing this issue, a workaround might be to disable "ultrasmooth animations" in FL Studio's "General" settings tab. In my case, as soon as I disabled this, my CPU usage dropped by ~10%, and menus no longer freeze the app, or even slow down for that matter. I also don't need the aforementioned "WINEDEBUG=+relay" option. Just make sure to disable the ultrasmooth animations and that may be all you need.

--- Comment #5 from fgoetze@multifuchs.email --- OP here, I tried triguys solution and disabled ultrasmooth in the general settings tab and I can confirm, that it works and the issue is gone.
Thanks! Now I no longer have to dualboot to windows :D
