be332326ba8fc3def406c5f29adf04fbe9a83976 broke wineoss.drv (configure claims
oss is too old, even with oss v 4.2_b2004)
even if it worked, wineoss.drv is pretty widely used with ossv3 implementations
(notably padsp and the *bsd oss implementations which only have partial support
for the oss4 api)

As far as supporting OSSv3 goes, I think it's not going to happen. OSSv4 has
quite a few new features that made writing the driver much easier. I hesitate
to go rework the driver significantly and make a lower quality implementation
just to support an ancient version of OSS. I think you'd have to make an
argument for why upgrading to OSSv4 is infeasible.

supporting OSSv3, please send an email to the wine-devel mailing list to start
