Bug ID: 48994 Summary: GTA: San Andreas + SilentPatch 1.1 build 32 crashes on start Product: Wine-staging Version: 5.6 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: gyebro69@gmail.com CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 66967 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=66967 terminal output
GTA: San Andreas with SilentPatch 1.1 (22.02.2020) installed crashes on start in Wine-Staging. The game starts properly in vanilla wine-5.6-299-gf65cfbfe9b. The unpatched game (installed from Steam) works in Staging.
I did a regression test between upstream Wine and Staging and the resulting commit was
52e25be08935db407901afab513ce00a3d94d1c5 is the first bad commit commit 52e25be08935db407901afab513ce00a3d94d1c5 Author: Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com Date: Wed Aug 8 20:00:15 2018 -0500
ntdll: Add a stub implementation of Wow64Transition.
The problem appeared after the rebase that took place on 15.04.20 if that helps. Staging commit a23c0760550a39ff98d4ca58486e1abc7330c41c that is.
Please let me know if you need logs with debug channels enabled.

--- Comment #1 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Still present in Wine-Staging 5.8.
If you have the retail/DVD 1.0 version of the game you only need SilentPatch: http://silent.rockstarvision.com/uploads/SilentPatchSA.zip ASI Loader: http://silent.rockstarvision.com/uploads/silents_asi_loader_13.zip
The contents of both zips should be extracted in the game directory where gta_sa.exe resides. If SilentPatch is installed then the game crashes after start in Staging.
If you have the Steam version one more step/download is needed. The Steam version has to be downgraded to v1.0. I used the link to the downgrader from this forum post: https://gtaforums.com/topic/927016-san-andreas-downgrader/?do=findComment&am...
GTASA_12-9-14_Steam_to_V1_DG.exe (1.2 GB) md5sum: 9a1db2455e987b7446d544aedb357b5c
After downgrading, the ASI Loader and SilentPatch should be placed in the game directory just like with the retail version.

--- Comment #2 from Dominique Martinet dvufhr.nznqarjf@noclue.notk.org --- I've got a problem I could bisect to this patch as well, on EverQuest. It's hard to reproduce so took me ages to bisect but definitely is this patch. (Basically, server just appears to disconnect me without any error message in logs whatsoever, I'm not sure what kind of logging variable I could enable to pinpoint the issue)
I didn't have the problem on 5.6.1 so something between wine 5.6 and 5.7 broke the patch for staging; same as the OP pretty much... Still happens on master as of 2020-05-17.
I would be happy to spend some time on this but no idea where to look honestly, I don't even know what the patch is supposed to do, and bisecting takes age for me so I'd rather avoid the solution of bisecting wine base with this patch on top... Any input would be appreciated, setting some variable that might produce useful logs or anything that would help figure out what broke. If nothing comes to mind I guess there's still that but I'd really want a reproducer that could automate the test...
Cheers!

I just realized I ddn't point to the same start-of-the-problem as Béla, I'm sure the package 5.6-1.fc32 still worked for me so the breakage happened later and it could be something different, gated by the same wow64cpu.dll . . . Should I open a different bz?
Thanks.
