I tried to install Dragon Naturally Speaking 15, which uses its own net 4.5.2 and needs WMI. So I install WMI, which changes the version to XP. So I changed the version back with winetricks winver=. Then I used winetricks to force mono. The installation went fine through the installation of net 4.5.2, but then hung up with this message: (in pop-up box) Windows management instrumentation service is disable or missing. (in terminal) {2b72133b-3f5b-4602-8952-803546ce3344} could be created for context 0x15 00f1:err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"CheckWMIService" returned 1602

I will run any tests needed.

By forcing mono, Natspeak install its own dotnet (hooray) but then my command (winetricks forcemono) is still active. Maybe the installation looks for its new dotnet and can't find it because mono is still being forced? That's the only thing I could think of.

I ran the debugger on a clean 64-bit wineprefix with no winetricks added. The version was auto-set to Windows 7. +xyz,+relay This is the last thousand lines.

I find the bug report rather confusing.

Logs with 'mscoree' are not useful if you have native MS .NET Framework installed in the WINEPREFIX and mscoree set as override.

Native WMI is not going to work - even if a 'winetricks' recipe for 32-bit exists (bug 16882).

Did you let the app install .NET Framework 4.5.2 on its own? 32-bit or 64-bit prefix? Did you remove Wine-Mono prior?

Please attach a *full* trace log from start to end, not just last thousands lines (compress if too large).

Also specify what kind of WINEPREFIX you used and all 'winetricks' recipes applied prior running the installer.

The installer checks for running WMI Service. Wine should provide a dummy 'winmgmt' service.

The installer now detects that the newly introduced (stub) WMI service is not running (not configured as auto-start) and ask for starting it:

This is acceptable as we don't want to auto-start services by default which are not used at all.

-> proceeds further after clicking 'OK'.

NOTE: If you let the app installer do .NET Framework 4.5.x install on its own in clean 32-bit or 64-bit WINEPREFIX you will end up with a broken .NET installation, causing DNS15 installer to fail later. These are known issues. If you don't follow general practice you have to deal with the fallout on your own.

The installer will still fail in the end because some custom actions require MS PowerShell 3+ installed in the WINEPREFIX (fails to load assembly 'System.Management.Automation, Version=1.0.0.0 ...).
