Bug ID: 54401 Summary: PhotoFiltre not printing Product: Wine Version: 8.0-rc5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: johann.mahne@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 73967 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=73967 Log of photoFiltre starting
I upgraded from version 7.0 to version 8.0 via the Linux Mint update manager. PhotoFiltre version 6 and 7 will now not print unless I click on print setup first. It was working on version 7.0 . I have to click print setup then click OK then close the window and then click print. Then it works. It is only for PhotoFiltre that I have this problem.

--- Comment #4 from MaranBr maranbr@outlook.com --- To be more specific, printing is not working for some softwares since Wine 7.22 (Devel). In the current Wine 8.0 (Stable) it doesn't work either.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54401
--- Comment #5 from MaranBr maranbr@outlook.com --- There seems to be an issue where Wine is erroneously leaving the printer port blank in the course of code execution, so the printer fails and prints nothing.

--- Comment #6 from Piotr Caban piotr.caban@gmail.com --- Please retest with wine that contains 48d3271f963319b6e45eeaf18b44ac1a1bd3c190 commit (localspl: Ignore an empty output string). This commit fixed similar issue described in https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54379.
The commit is available in wine-8.0.1 or 8.3 and newer.

--- Comment #7 from spartan roc spartanroc@gmail.com --- I can confirm similar bugs on printing with other wine applications. I am running archlinux with wine 8.9 and printing does not work. Trying to print in a wine application sometimes crashes it, sometimes gives an error message like "... unable to find trailer dictionary while recovering damaged file". When I downgrade it to the old version wine 7.22, everything is fine.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54401
--- Comment #8 from Piotr Caban piotr.caban@gmail.com --- The "... unable to find trailer dictionary while recovering damaged file" CUPS error should be fixed by 8171cfb79b4dbd57184ade9b7a66aed47aba8427 (localspl: Don't pass original document name to cupsStartDocument).
In case printing is still not working/crashes with this patch please attach a log with following debug channels: seh, gdi, enhmetafile, winspool, localspl, psdrv
What applications is it failing to print in?

--- Comment #9 from spartan roc spartanroc@gmail.com --- Thanks, Piotr Caban. It works better now (v8.10). But it seems to have a new margin issue. Typically, the first print is ok. But from the 2nd and on, it always leaves about a 2.5-inch blank at the top, at least for several pdf files I have printed. When I switch back to v7.22, everything is normal.

What application do you use to print the PDFs? Could you please attach the log I've asked about in Comment 8?

--- Comment #11 from spartan roc spartanroc@gmail.com --- Created attachment 74619 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=74619 log file for the top margin issue with PDF-XChange Viewer
PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5 does print with wine 8.10, but an extra 2.5-inch margin on the top occurs.

wine 8.10 printing does not work for Adobe Reader XI. The crippled printing interface can be seen in the attached jpg file.

--- Comment #14 from spartan roc spartanroc@gmail.com --- Created attachment 74622 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=74622 normal interfeace when using Adobe Reader with wine 7.22
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54401
--- Comment #15 from spartan roc spartanroc@gmail.com --- See attached files for the issues. The margin issue occurs for PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5. For Adobe Reader XI, printing does not work at all and the interface is crippled as shown in the attached files. Due to size limitations, I have to remove all the traces from the log files.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54401
--- Comment #16 from Piotr Caban piotr.caban@gmail.com --- The logs are useless without the traces. You can compress the logs instead of removing lines from them.

--- Comment #17 from Piotr Caban piotr.caban@gmail.com --- I don't see broken interface with current wine in Acrobat Reader 11. As far as I know printing never worked in the app since it patches GetPrinterDriver{AW} to return error.

--- Comment #18 from Zeb Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- The first broken commit is 1cf1412a12c6ee6191d387162fecb456f0df2d89. There are four other bugs with this as the regression commit, all of which are marked as fixed with different other commits.
For three of these (bug 53967, bug 54057, bug 53987) I tried to cherry-pick the fix on top of 1cf1412a12 directly, but printing was still broken.
The fourth (bug 54379) may very well be confusion of two overlapping regressions, since the fix doesn't even look like it's related to the source. The fix doesn't cherry-pick, though, and if I try to build the commit, printing is still broken.
So either this is a *fifth* unique regression from 1cf1412a12c, or it overlaps with bug 54379.
I don't think at this point it's particularly worth trying to figure out which of these, because it turns out this is fixed upstream. I bisected the fix to https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commitdiff/ca66b3eb8440db53fb110b559d29c6783be61e42.
