Summary: Starcraft Crashes while attempting to access Battle.net Product: Wine Version: 1.1.14 Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kurisukun@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=19401) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=19401) Crash log from Terminal (1.0.1)
System Setup: I'm running off a bootable USB drive, with the latest version of Starcraft Broodwar installed in wine. It is installed in a drive mapped to the 2 gig section of the USB alloted for Ubuntu to store files.. (not the install partition, but 2 gigs of extra storage space)
(tested in both 1.0.1 and 1.1.14)
Problem: Starcraft installed and patched with no problems. Single player functions as it should. However, when selecting Multiplayer, and going into Battle.net, a problem occurs.
Everything checks out okay. There are minor graphical glitches, where the loading screen (checking versions, connecting to server, etc.) Does not display correctly. It then goes to the battle.net Login screen. It, also does not display correctly, missing most, if not all, of the graphics. A cursor appears, assumed to be in the username box.
At this point, the program exits.

--- Comment #4 from Adam Petaccia adam@tpetaccia.com 2009-02-16 23:06:35 --- The patch attached in bug 9787 prevents starcraft from crashing, but starcraft then informs me that it can't connect to BNet (I think its something about an invalid server, but can't tell because of bug 2467).
Note that I have other linux machines that play starcraft online with no problem, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

--- Comment #5 from Luke Prenger Lukeprenger1@yahoo.com 2009-02-23 17:40:18 --- I'm using wine version 1.1.15 and when i enter battle.net on starcraft is says I'm running invalid version of starcraft and i had to manually install the patch 1.16.1 for Starcraft. I also play Warcraft3 and Daiblo2 on battle.net and they work just fine with downloading patches and running battle.net.

There are several patches attached to that bug, which specific patch did you apply? 18638 ran and compiled fine on wine 1.1.15, after running tools/make_requests, but Starcraft still crashed when trying to access battle.net
Also, strangely I experience different results when tryinig to access different gateways, U.S. West just sends me back to the battle.net menu, whereas U.S. East will try to launch battle.net, and crash as expected.

--- Comment #11 from Miguel Lopez graptorx@gmail.com 2009-07-25 13:49:30 --- I had the same problem... I did solve it even though im not 100% sure if this is the cause...
copied c:/windows/fonts from an XP SP2 machine, pasted it in my Slackware 12.2 machine.
Used the font installer and installed the fonts. At the beginning this didnt work but after i uninstalled wine and later on recompiled again it worked flawlessly...
My advice is to try, 1st install the fonts, uninstall wine (if installed), compile, install.
method of installing was: ./configure make depend && make make install
also worked with:
./tools/wineinstall
Please post back if it worked or not since I feel that this could be another instance of bug 5253 (Starcraft/Diablo/Battle.net crashes from font metrics problem).

--- Comment #13 from runetmember@gmail.com 2010-09-08 12:08:24 CDT --- StarCraft not crash anymore when access to Battle.net, but Battle.net still unusable: 1. In Wine 1.2 Battle.net can not identify application version and not allow to login after all. 2. In Wine 1.32 Battle.net successfully identify application version but there is same rendering problem like in Wine 1.2. Looks like Direct Draw still not implemented completly.
