I apologise now if i'm just being an idiot but I am a complete novice to linux.
I am using ubuntu 8.10 having had enough of windows, the one thing I miss with
windows is being able to play my football manager games (kills boredom!) I did
some research and found a utility (wine) that could help with my suffering,
after many hours reaserching i got to know the basics of wine and was able to
install my game with no issues. the problem arrose when trying to play the
game, i tried right clicking on the .exe file which did nothing, i then loaded
it in the terminal and the response i got is in the attachment. being I have
only used linux for 3 days the response has blew my mind and have been unable
to find anything on how to fix problem. any ideas i'd be very grateful.

i understand that it could just be that wine is unable to play this game, and
if so i'd just have to deal with it :(

wine 1.01, game is fifa manager and I have a full copy bought from shop with

Ok. Try latest 1.1.35. Your version is very old.

yep just realised that, will install updated version and post if it fixed the
problem.

Did you uninstall 1.0.1? Also it would be better to run the program
with explicit 'wine program.exe' command instead of relying on some
kind of launcher, and cd to the program's directory first.

ok, i did not uninstall but updated the wine, would it be best to uninstall it
completely and then install the updated version?

Just check what 'wine --version' reports.

umm, i did that and it say wine 1.01? although i followed instructions and
updated too .35, at least i thought. i will try updating again

I am an idiot yes, although i did warn you all i was a newbie, i didnt go to my
download manager to update wine.

No reply in over a year, and no download. Resolving abandoned, if anyone is
still able to reproduce this in the current development version (currently
1.7.6) feel free to reopen.
