Steps to reproduce:
1. Run `wine setup16.exe`
2. Select "Windows 3.1 software (16 bit)"
3. Run `cd ~/.wine/drive_c/GUIDE8 && wine guide8a.exe`

I did some more testing and this version of the GUIDE software also crashes in Windows 3.1 and Windows XP, so it looks like it's not actually Wine's fault.

I don't think so. I think it's just a broken piece of old software that happened to be included with the newer version. An original GUIDE 8.0 CD would probably work though.
