When playing world of warcraft there are squares of "blank" land along the
roads and in random locations. By blank I mean barren dirt. These squares
eliminate almost all roads and also appear on mountains, grass, sand. It
happens mostly outdoors. The land is shaped correctly but lacks the expected
texture map. The error is entirely graphical and doesn't prevent gameplay, it
is however ugly.

Just system info because it seems to vary from system to system, (most people
don't have it at all)

What version of Wine are you using? Does the 169.xx nvidia drivers help? (I
believe the latest revision is xx = 12)

Upgraded Nvidia drivers to 169.12 on my Geforce 7, nothing. also I have
auto-update in Ubuntu so I'm never more than 7 days past the last wine
update.using version #9.59  atm.

Having same issue using ubuntu gutsy amd64 w/ wine version 0.9.58 & nvidia card
7600 GT w/ 169.12 driver. (it still exists after install 0.9.59)

Issue does not exist on ubuntu hardy amd64 w/ wine version 0.9.59 & nvidia 8800
GTS w/ 169.12 driver

Anyhow, appears to be a bug with specific card/driver/wow versions.  The
standard gutsy driver also had the same problem 100.14.19 so I attempted both a
wine upgrade and driver upgrade to fix.

The other system that doesn't have the issue only has a different card in it,
so this is sort of an odd problem.  It started occurring with the latest wow
patch.

It sounds like perhaps a driver bug also make sure that compiz and friends are
disabled. I haven't heard of more issues as thousands of people are running WoW
on  Wine.

Compiz/etc. are disabled and the effects are still present.  Also this started
occurring with patch 2.4 of world of warcraft, so I don't think it's "just" a
driver bug, but as this problem doesn't exist on an 8800 GTS (with an install
of wow copied from this machine), I'm sure the driver is part of it.
