wine --version
wine-0.9.53
Firstly and as per Ms. Susan Cragin's instructions at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=5402, I ran the following commands:
rm -rf ~/.wine wget kegel.com/wine/winetricks sh winetricks vcrun6 wine /media/DNS9_CD1/setup.exe
I get the following error after agreeing to the terms of the license presented in setup.exe of the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 package:
wine: Assertion failed at address 0xffffe410 (thread 0017), starting debugger...Unhandled exception: assertion failed in 32-bit code (0xffffe410). I'm currently building WINE 0.9.46 from the source to see if I can make the program work there. Either way, I might try that afterwards. Note that this is, so far, the first time that I've needed WINE, so I'm sure you understand my placing a priority on getting DNS working first. If it comes up, would the backtrace from 0.9.46 still useful?

It seems that I incorrectly was submitting for the AppDB, so I didn't see that. Next time, good sir.

--- Comment #4 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-01-14 20:02:48 --- No debug traces with old Wine version are useless here. You opened bug for a new Wine version, not old. --- Comment #5 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-01-14 20:26:13 --- Vitaliy's comments aside, we do encourage looking for the patch that broke the app, so in that sense we do encourage some use of older wine. See http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
I'll try to reproduce this problem here, once I dig up the DNS 9 disc again.

--- Comment #6 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-01-14 23:59:34 --- I can't reproduce the problem. DNS 9 installed fine for me with today's git (though the ereg screen fonts look really strange, probably because of bug 11123).
Try building with wine from git, perhaps?
