I am new on Wine. I am trying to use it on my old Compaq Evo N800v in order to run some games for my child. I have Linux Lucid Puppy 5.2.28 installed, in frugal mode. I have xorgwizard configured as Vesa because native video drivers cause video problems after few minutes of heating mother board) I tried Wine 1.3.6, 1.3.13 and now 1.3.28 downloading .pet files. I tried to run cracked RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 (they work fine on my Windows7) end both don't start, they give the same errors reported in attachment. I suppose my video card is not recognized by Wine.

Unrelated to this problem, but that package lacks mp3 support, so if you have broken sound, that may be why.

You're using mesa (and a fairly old release at that). The 3d performance in that driver may simply not be enough for this game to run, though I'll defer judgment on that for someone that knows 3d better.

lucid puppy linux works with a single user, root, as I have understand in few week of use, is a tiny distro of linux based on ubuntu

libmpg123.so.0 is not present in lucid puppy 2.5.28 distro, I have tried to google for a .pet file (package format for lucid puppy) that contains it but with no success. I have read that is a problem common for many linux distro and wine could include it to prevent the problem (nice to have!). any idea where to find it?

update: I have found MesaLib-7.11.tar.gz from ftp://ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/mesa/7.11/ if I well understood the latest version of Mesa drivers. I converted it to MesaLib-7.11.pet using tgz2pet. I will do a backup of my system then will try to install them... It's first time I do something like this... :-)

There are licensing problems in the US.

That is quite low, for instance, I get: 62625 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12524.912 FPS
with binary drivers and an nvidia 480.
I have no idea about how to change or upgrade that driver... any suggestion on what to google for?
Check with puppy, you'll want catalyst drivers.

--- Comment #17 from silvio silvio.caggia@tiscali.it 2011-09-14 19:14:15 CDT --- I have tried a lot of things: first tried to upgrade mesa as I said yesterday but I gave up when I saw that converting tar.gz to pet is not sufficent to install a package... :-) then tried to install various version of catalyst but when I ran aticonfig they didn't recognize my video card, i read is too old for them.
at the end I removed all these .pet and tried another way: I ran xorgwizard changing from Xvesa to the native video driver (this creates some problems of heating and video instability on my pc but is ok for a short test) then I reinstalled from quickpet Xorg_High-1.1-lucid.pet now glxgears runs at 5000 every 5 seconds (10 times faster) new glxinfo is posted new wine logs are posted and now the new behaviours: executing wine rct.exe: starts with a sort of full screen mode where all pixels are of the same color but the color changes according to the "average color" of the current screen image... begins black, then green... the cursor appear big and seems to do something but is very difficult to play in that "blind mode" :-) the only way to exit il ctrl-alt-backspace. executing wine RCT3.exe: same as before: appears a dialog: "Your graphics hardware or drivers do not meet the minimum requirements to run RCT3.", at OK or Cancel dumps. executing wine RCT3plus.exe: same as before: no window appears and stops in few seconds. conclusion: there are less log errors, all relate to audio if I well understand, but the game is not playable, at least for my specific video-card... I am wondering if is a wine issue or something else...

Great! the demo you linked works perfectly for me with simple Xvesa drivers! the errors in wine log file are the same of the "old" test, but the game seems to work! Audio works too, despite to error messages in wine log. So I have to think that the problem is related only to the crack I was using... it works in windows7 but not with wine. I think this can't be considered a wine issue :-). Can I ask you a link to a no_cd crack of the full game? Now I will search for a demo of RCT3 (late version of the game) to check if it works too... Many Thanks!

Cracks are not supported on wine's Bugzilla. The demo works though, so I'm inclined to say this is INVALID/WONTFIX.
