Summary: WTLIB: Highlighted Search Text Is Blacked Out Product: Wine Version: 1.2.1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: james@jamesmcdonald.id.au
When searching for multiple words e.g. "Family Worship" (entered in the search field without quotes) and then opening an article from the returned results. If the searched for words appear on one line in the article they will be blacked out, instead of the correct behaviour of being highlighted with a background colour as specified by the Library ==> Properties... ==> Text ==> "Search text background color" setting.
For the above example I searched for family worship and then opened "*** w09 10/15 pp. 29-31 Family Worship—Vital for Survival! ***"
Platform: Ubuntu 10.10 wine --version wine-1.2.1 ( I have tried the ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa version of 1.3.x with the same result)

--- Comment #2 from Arno Teigseth arno@teigseth.no 2010-11-02 08:01:35 CDT --- What graphics card do you have? I've seen similar trouble with SiS cards.
Do 'lspci' if you don't know, and paste the result here.

If a single search text word appears on it's own line then the highlighting works as expected.
If 2 search words appear on the one line they are blacked out

Looks like it's an Intel card

Just tested it on Ubuntu 10.10 and wine 1.2.1. Can't confirm.
Nouveau driver used, no compositing. BTW, james try disabling desktop effects if these were enabled.

I have tried disabling desktop effects and also changing resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 and this hasn't helped.
I will try installing into a VBox VM and see if I can duplicate the error from there.

--- Comment #7 from Igor Tarasov tarasov.igor@gmail.com 2011-01-28 05:10:07 CST --- Created an attachment (id=33023) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33023) Watchtower Library 2010 Russian black artifacts
Confirm it on Ubuntu 10.10, Wine 1.3.12, Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 (Dell vostro laptop). As you see, there are black artifacts not only in text, but in sidebar also.
Also, I confirm that text artifact appears only when two (or more) highlighted words are on the same line. If you change window size, so that words change their position, they appear as normal.
Also, disabling visual effects (compositing) does not help.

If you experience this please add some data there according to this guide: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html
I currently don't have access to the intel graphics machine, so I can't provide that info. You could help fixing this.

BTW, what happens if you select lines with that blacked out text?
Text hi-lighting behaves normally, you still can't read the blacked-out text but you know what it says anyways
Also, if you confirm this bug and want it to be fixed, you may vote for it (see above).

This bug is reproducible with default wine applications.
1. Run winecfg. 2. Switch to Graphics tab.
See all-black slider below.
I think that descripton of this bug could be changed.
